How to prepare for a blood donation

· Educational guide — not medical advice

Eligibility is decided by trained staff at the donation facility. DashBlood’s readiness checklist is educational and self-reported; it cannot approve a person to donate. Always answer hospital screening questions honestly, even when a request is urgent.

Before the appointment

  • Sleep adequately and eat a normal, balanced meal.
  • Drink water and avoid arriving dehydrated.
  • Bring accepted identification and any information requested by the hospital.
  • Review medicines, recent illness, travel, procedures, pregnancy, and previous donations with screening staff.
  • Do not donate because of pressure, payment, threats, or fear of disappointing someone.

After donation

Follow the facility’s instructions, rest for the recommended period, drink fluids, and avoid strenuous activity until staff say it is appropriate. Seek medical attention if you experience severe or persistent symptoms.
